About the Owners: Michael Bowyer a native of West Virginia, originally from Moorefeild, attended Fairmont State University where he earned an AS Degree in Culinary Arts. During his education at Fairmont State he worked at the Vintage Room on Chesnut Street in Morgantown where he was promoted to Sous Chef, a position he held for 3 years. After graduating he accepted the Executive Chef position at the Vintage Room which he held for 2 years.
Janet Ferraro: A native of Morgantown, she graduated from Morgantown High School where she attended Monongalia Technical School and earned a certificate in the Culinary Arts Program. Janet went on to attend Johnson and Wales University in Charllote, NC where she earned an AS Degree in Culinary Arts. She moved to Sunriver Oregon, a 4 star resort, for 6 mo to complete her culinary externship. After returning home to Morgantown she accepted the Executive Chef position at the Vintage Room where she ambitiously worked for 3 years. Janet went on to open Lira Restaurant and Lounge with owners Brandon Kupec and Allen Saud.
The Birth of the Dancing Fig: Lira went on to be a success and during the second year of operation Brandon Kupec offered to sell the company so he could concentrate on other bussiness endevoirs. Lira's last day was Febuary 16, 2013 ironically its 2nd year Anniversary. Janet and Michael went on a culinary tour of Italy in 2010 and fell in love with with the fresh cuisine and food markets. They were struck by the abundance of fresh figs that Italy offered and marveled at how they seemed to compliment everything and were equally delicious by themselves. When they acceptepted the offer to buy the restaurant they wanted a name that would reflect the changes that they wanted to make. They knew they wanted to offer Italian ciusine with fresh pastas, and to them, Italy, meant figs. They also wanted to emphasize local music and arts, hence The Dancing Fig was born.
The Baker: Kristin Thompson originally from Maryland attended Patsserie School in Rockville Maryland and has been proffessional baking since 2004. A woman of many talents Kristin has worked in the restaurant industry for many years and played multiple roles. She formily managed "Rococco" a high end restaurant in Fells Point area of Baltimore, MD. Kristin moved to Morgantown WV in 2009. She now persues her two true loves of the industry, baking, and working one on one with the customers as their server.
Our Vission: We believe that fresh food nourishes the Body and music and arts nourish the Soul, this is why we are commited to providing and supporting both. We want to provide an enjoyable laid back atmosphere where on occasion the two arts (Culinary and Musical) meet. At The Dancing Fig, we care about the environment and have adopted the following practises to reduce our environmental impact: we source local ingredients when available, pay to recyle the bottles consumed in our establishment, only offer sustainably harvested seafood, and reduce our carbon footprint by using previously used plate ware and silverware rather than new. When you are ready for new dinner ware, bring your old set here and give it new life!
